The Start of Something Beautiful

So here it begins. I am writing this blog to stay connected to my friends and family while I study abroad in Belgium for a year. I am going through the Rotary Club (they are pretty awesome).

I first became interested in foreign exchange last summer. I decided high school was no longer the place for me, and I might as well start doing something I was passionate about, seeing the world. So I met with a lady in charge of my local club here in Cody (thanks Kathy!). After that I had an interview in front of a few members of the local club. Later in November I traveled down to Cheyenne where I was interviewed in front of many Rotary members, all from the District 5440. At the end of the interview, we met with all the inbound kids from different countries, and past youth exchange-ers. After talking with all the different kids representing their home countries, I chose Belgium, Ecuador, and Italy as my top three countries. The next day when I arrived back home, I received a call saying I would be going to Belgium!

I have heard from my first two host families! They both have young children, which makes me happy, because I have always, ALWAYS, wanted younger siblings. I am most nervous about speaking French. I have taken two years of Spanish in high school. I tried to start learning online, but it all is gibberish to me. Hopefully in 4 months from now I will be speaking fluently!

So a little about me. My name is Skye Irwin. I graduated a year early from high school, but am currently not enrolled in any college (who knows where I'll be in a year?!). I am hoping that Belgium will open my eyes to a new take on life and introduce me to a career that I will be passionate about. I am also passionate about tennis (lucky for me my second host little sister also plays tennis!!!!). I like to see myself as a freethinker, a little out of control and crazy at time, but I think that is what makes me unique. I live with my mother, father (Papa Bear), brother (who is soon to move to Colorado for college), my 7 dogs, 3 cats, and many chickens. My best friends are Abbey (aka Abbeyita, a link to her blog is soon to come :) ) and Meteja (who just moved to Bozeman :( ).

Well that's all for now, cheers!
